Guardian Program for Ever After
(Both male and female breeder dogs become availabe; but female responsibilities are described below)
Thank you for considering Guardianship. We are always looking for the best families within 100 miles of Spokane, WA, to join our Guardian Program. Our program is designed to benefit the breeder dog (foremost), the Guardian family, and the breeder. Instead of a kennel, the breeder dog is assigned membership to an exclusive forever family while fulfilling its short breeding career with Ever After. The Guardian home receives a “pick-of-the-breed” puppy at a significantly reduced purchase price and enjoys life-giving experiences with an amazing dog during its breedings and forever after. Although Ever After retains ownership of its breeder dogs and puppies for a contractual 3-4 litters, the breeder knows that the most stable place for dams between litters is with wonderful Guardian families; so Ever After is intentional about a respectful working relationship where the Guardians feel ownership of their sweet pup throughout the contractual period. Since Guardian families will be receiving Ever After’s top-evaluated breeder dogs, and seen as extensions of the breeding program, Ever After must be selective in choosing Guardians. If interested, please read the Guardian Family Benefits & Responsibilities below. If still interested, thoroughly fill out a puppy application form here, making sure to check “I am interested in” with “being a guardian/forever family” near the bottom of the application. Also, feel free to contact Ever After with any questions you may have on Guardianship or otherwise. If considered for Guardianship, Ever After will contact you and discuss the next steps.
Guardian Family Benefits
At a significantly reduced purchase price, Guardians receive a fully health-tested as well as top-evaluated breeder dog for temperament, structure, health, and coat as evaluated using Pat Hasting’s methods as well as ALAA’s and WALA’s high standards for the breed.
Guardians enjoy the breeding experience with a quality breeding dog and the staff of Ever After. Homeschool families, in particular, love being part of whelping and socializing the puppies as part of their school experience. As former homeschoolers, we love working with such families.
All veterinarian costs dealing with breeding and whelping are the responsibility of the breeder, not the Guardian family.
The Guardian family gets to purchase Trupanion health insurance at the breeder’s discounted monthly price - great deal!
After a successful breeding career, the Guardian family has sole ownership of one amazing dog.
Already established as an excellent Guardian family and veteran in the program, Ever After offers Guardians the option to purchase another puppy as a pet with a 10% discount; or choose to Guardian again (mutual agreement).
Guardian Family Responsibilities
Must live within 100 miles from Spokane, WA.
Must own home with fenced-in yard for dog to run/exercise. Dog must not be chained. Dog must not be left in yard while no one is home.
Must keep on leash outside of fenced-in areas.
Must have a flexible work and social schedule where breeder dog is not left alone more than 4-6 hours at a time. This loving breed needs people around. A flexible schedule (or dog sitter) helps in making the breeder dog available for the breeding process too.
Must become a lifetime member of BAXTER & Bella (use Promo code from the RESOURCES page) as an essential first step toward proper obedience/socialization and should be accompanied with a municipal class enrollment. A certificate of completion of the CGC (Canine Good Citizen) must be given to Ever After for the dog’s permanent breeding file within the first 1 1/2 years.
Must be quality pet owners who care about the dog’s diet, weight, exercise, regular veterinarian visits/immunizations, municipal registration, training, socialization, frequent groomings, teeth care, and emotional health. Understand that the costs associated with such care are the responsibility of the Guardian family.
Must communicate clearly and kindly to Ever After in regard to all things affecting the breeder dog and its availability; including dog’s health, family vacations, transportation conflicts, etc. Our favorite guardian homes are with families who are tirelessly excited about every aspect of their dog’s breeding career. We love having families involved in the excitement who are willing to make the vet visits and/or promptly deliver the breeder dog to our home for testing, breeding, and whelping of puppies.
Understand that the breeder dog retires from Ever After’s breeding program after the contractual agreement between the Guardian family and Ever After has been met. Once retired, the Guardians retains sole ownership of their special dog and a lifetime friendship with those at Ever After.
